Inspector comments: POOL IS CLOSED TO SWIMMING BY ORDER OF THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. CONTACT C. ELMORE (704-507-6814) WHEN CORRECTIONS ARE MADE. POOL CANNOT REOPEN WITHOUT PRIOR VERIFICATION OF CORRECTIONS BY THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS MUST BE RESOLVED. 1. THE POOL pH MUST BE CORRECTED TO THE 7.2-7.8 RANGE. IT WAS 8.0 DURING INSPECTION. 2. THE ISSUE WITH THE INSTALLED SALT CELL SYSTEM BEING IMPROPER FOR PROVIDING PRIMARY CHLORINATION FOR THIS SIZED COMMERCIAL POOL MUST BE RESOLVED. 3. THE ISSUES WITH HEALTH DEPARTMENT PUMP AND MOTOR APPROVAL, ELECTRICAL PERMITTING, AND ELECTRICAL INSPECTION MUST BE RESOLVED.
#3 · Water quality: pool water pH −6
.2535(1) Maintain pH at 7.2 to 7.8. Observed pH to be 8.0 Correct the pH.
#8 · Pool maintenance: surface skimmers (with weirs, baskets and covers) or gutters clean, in good repair, and functioning properly, no floating debris −4
.2518(k) Replace missing weirs. Observe 1 weir missing out of 2 total skimmers. Replace the weir. No permit action taken.
#23 · Equipment room: chlorine or bromine automatic feeders that meet NSF Standard 50 −4
Observed salt cell system installed that is not sized properly for this commercial pool. Salt cells must be approved for installation by the Health Department. The cell system appears to be for a residential pool and does not meet the output requirements as reported to C. Elmore by the Health Department. The system will have to be replaced with a properly sized system and likely will require a back-up chlorination system. Alternately another chlorination system that is properly sized for the pool can be installed in the circulation system and the current salt system could remain as an additional chlorination system, but cannot be the primary chlorination system.
#24 · Equipment room: approved pump, filter, and flow meter operating properly −4
Observed variable speed pump installed without approval from the Health Department. It is not clear if this pump is approvable for this circulation system. The pump system must be able to be set for a flow rate that is able to turn over the volume of the pool (35,400 gallons) every 6 hours and also not exceed the flow limitations of the other elements of the system, such as the main drain covers or EQ covers. The pump and motor change out must also follow the proper electrical permitting and inspection regulations. There is no evidence that this pump and motor change was approved by the Health Department or went through the proper electrical inspection and permit process.
